Henry
County is located on the southern border of Virginia about midway
between Roanoke, VA to the north and Greensboro, NC to the south.
The area provides small town or rural living with all the benefits
of a large city within an hour's drive. A mild climate enhances numerous
recreational activities: the area has six golf courses, two large
reservoirs, excellent fishing streams, and hiking opportunities including
the nearby
Appalachian Trail. Several NASCAR sanctioned automobile races take
place each year at the Martinsville Speedway and baseball fans enjoy
the Martinsville Mustangs. Several beaches - Virginia Beach, Myrtle
Beach, SC, and Nag's Head, NC are about 5 hours away by car.
Scenic attractions such as Monticello and the Biltmore are within
3 hours driving time.
Excellent
health care facilities are available locally and three world class
medical centers - North Carolina Baptist Hospital, Duke
University Hospital and the University of Virginia Medical Center
- are 1.5 to 3 hours away.
Numerous
public and several private schools exist. Two local government
entities, Martinsville City and Henry County, include two distinct
public school districts: Henry County Public Schools and Martinsville
City Public Schools. One local community college serves the area
and many other excellent colleges/universities exist within 0.5
- 2 hours driving time.
